With Boasts and Complaints, Trump Defends His Record at Rally

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C.—President Donald Trump on Monday defended his record at a raucous campaign rally for South Carolina's governor, saying he entered the White House with "a bad hand" and problems that predecessors from both parties left unsolved.

Mr. Trump said he took office a year and a half ago at a moment of national peril, with North Korea expanding its nuclear-weapons program and other countries exploiting trade deals that harmed U.S. workers.
