LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) --
Authorities are surrounding a Long Beach senior housing facility amid a shooting investigation in the area early Monday.Several patrol vehicles were seen outside the Covenant Manor in the 600 block of E. 4th Street in the downtown area of the city.
After several reports, Long Beach police confirmed to Eyewitness News there is no active shooter situation at the facility.
Los Angeles police at one point said a gunman was in the building. It was later reported a man matching a description of the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital.
Long Beach Fire Department officials said two firefighters were injured after apparently being shot at. The extent of their injuries was not known.
Witnesses said they saw what appeared to be a wounded paramedic.
The incident all started at about 4 a.m. with initial reports of an explosion and then an active shooter at the facility.
Residents in the high-rise building were evacuated and nearby streets were closed.
