Brush fire is threatening upscale Westside homes, triggering evacuations

By 5:30 p.m., the Portola fire had burned up to 40 acres — up from 32 acres almost two hours earlier — and was 10% contained. Officials said it was moving toward homes on two flanks and had the potential to grow to about 60 acres. Hundreds of firefighters swarmed the area, crowding the narrow, winding streets with equipment.
