1 dead, 12 injured in explosion at Central Texas hospital

Updated 6:30 p.m.: Revised to include new information, including a death.

One person was killed and at least a dozen others were injured in an explosion at a Central Texas hospital Tuesday afternoon, officials say.

A construction worker was killed in the blast that occurred about 2:15 p.m. at Coryell Memorial Hospital in Gatesville, about 35 miles west of Waco.

Bob Harrell, emergency manager for Coryell County, said all of those killed or injured were construction workers and not hospital staff or patients.

City officials said there was a partial building collapse, and video from the scene showed multiple crews battling a fire, KCEN-TV reported.

Nine patients, including one with crush injuries to the head and chest, were taken to Baylor Scott & White in Temple, and four went to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest in Waco, officials said.
